Birthday Party Checklist for Parents
A short, practical checklist you can work through in order. It assumes a party at a venue, but most of it applies wherever you hold it.

Before booking
- Date and a backup date
- Guest list and approximate number of children
- Budget, including cake and any extras
- Whether siblings and parents are staying
When booking
- Start and finish time confirmed in writing
- What is included in the package
- Food and drink for children; anything for adults
- Allergy and dietary requirements passed on
- Deposit terms and how to change numbers later
Invitations
- Venue name and full address, not just the area
- Start and finish time
- RSVP date and your phone number
- Anything guests need to bring — socks are commonly required at indoor play venues
The week before
- Final head count sent to the venue
- Cake ordered or made
- Candles, lighter and a cake knife if the venue does not supply them
- Party bags, if you are doing them
- Camera or phone charged
On the day
- Arrive early with the cake
- Bring a bag for cards and presents
- Spare clothes for the birthday child
- Someone assigned to photos
