Indoor Activities for Hot Summer Days in Orihuela Costa
In July and August the problem is not rain, it is the middle of the day. Between roughly 1pm and 5pm the beach is hard work with young children and outdoor playgrounds are too hot to use.
The usual local rhythm is beach or pool early, indoors in the middle of the day, outdoors again in the evening.

Structure the day around the heat
- 8-11am: beach, pool or a walk while it is still cool.
- 1-5pm: somewhere air-conditioned.
- 6pm onwards: promenade, playground, dinner out — the coast comes back to life.
Air-conditioned options in the middle of the day
Indoor play centres, cinema, enclosed shopping centres and indoor pools are the practical choices. For under-eights, indoor play usually wins because they can move rather than sit still.
Why indoor play works in summer
Children who have been in the sun all morning still have energy but should not be back out in it. An indoor session gets that energy out with shade, air conditioning and cold drinks. Dream Park in Playa Flamenca has the play area and the café in the same space, which is what makes a hot afternoon manageable.
Heat safety with children
- Water regularly, not only when they ask.
- Hats and shade for any outdoor plan, including the market and the promenade.
- Avoid parked cars and metal playground equipment in the afternoon.
- Watch for the quiet, flushed, tired child — that is often the first sign of too much sun.
Looking for an indoor option?
Dream Park is the indoor play space in Playa Flamenca, inside Centro Comercial Flamenca Beach, with a café for parents in the same room. Regular play needs no booking.
